Hello [NAME], If you are running a Torrent program (BitTorrent for example), the Torrent program needs to be set with some care. By default, Torrent programs are set to 'Unlimited Bandwidth' on both upload and download speed, and if they are left like that, then they will (by definition) try to out-compete every other application, and try to occupy 100% of your connection, no matter how fast that connection is. Torrents by their very nature will try to squeeze out all other applications, including web browsing and emailing and so on. So, you'll mainly want to turn down the 'UPLOAD' speed - the default is usually '0' which means 'UNLIMITED'. Under OPTIONS, PREFERENCES, BANDWIDTH - there is a setting for 'GLOBAL UPLOAD RATE' and instead of having UNLIMITED, you instead want to set that at about 3 or 5 KBYTES/SECOND on the upload side. This in itself can make a dramatic difference in the performance of your whole internet connection, since any program that tries to have unlimited, exclusive and 100% usage of your internet connection will obviously impact every other application and every other user. As well, you'll also want to turn down the 'GLOBAL DOWNLOAD RATE' to a fraction of your overall internet connection speed - typically around 50 KBYTES / SECOND is a good maximum. You can either do that through the 'GLOBAL DOWNLOAD RATE' setting, or you can use the SCHEDULER to restrict your torrent use even further during peak usage times, and then to loosen those restrictions during your off-peak times. For example, you can schedule your torrent to be 20 KB during the day, and to operate at 75 KB from 1 AM till 7 AM when no one in your house is using your connection. Setting your Torrent program appropriately can help preserve your internet bandwidth for time-sensitive applications, like Web Browsing and eMailing and online gaming. Without setting it properly, a Torrent will do it's best to exclude all other users and all other applications from sharing your internet connection, and can negatively impact your performance quite significantly. - iNET2000.com Support PS - Updates to this Ticket will be emailed to [EMAIL].
